Kelsey Takes 3rd at the Pacific Grove International Triathlon

This is my fourth time racing Pacific Grove. I alway have loved this race with the awesome beach scenery and the draft legal style of racing.

The swim is the most important leg of this race. I knew I had to do everything possible to come out in the front group. It was a rather kelpy swim but I seem to always navigate through it smoothly. I exited the water with Emily Cocks and Julie Ertel( 2 time Olympian). I was first out onto the bike thanks to my Xterra wetsuit that comes off quickly and found myself riding with Julie. Emily had trouble getting her wetsuit off in transition so it left her chasing hard to join our group. Julie and I should have put in a harder effort to keep her off the back but it was super windy and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to push any harder. She eventually caught us and we had our trio for the remaining 3 laps of the bike. We took turns rotating and each lap we could see we were putting time on everyone else.

The run started off really fast. I was running in 2nd behind Julie with Emily right on my heels. At halfway through, Emily made the pass and my legs were just too tired to go with her. I finished the race in 3rd and got to take some money home which is always nice. Next race is up Calgary 70.3 in Canada July 24 :)
